The Moocable Community is a civilized place for learners to thrive and engage.
Self-learning is difficult. Cohort programs/bootcamps/college degrees are expensive. We’re building a peer-to-peer “university” where you can study with other learners. Whether you’re looking to gain a new skill, build projects, get a job, teach others, or establish your profile as a leader in your domain, we are the community for you!
Please treat our community forum with respect. We are a shared resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.
The conversations we have here set the tone for every new arrival. Help us influence the culture and future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum an interesting place to be — and avoiding those that do not.
These guidelines are in place to help aid the human judgment of our community and keep this forum clean and welcoming for enlightening public discussion and shared learning.
Be Respectful & Kind
It’s okay to disagree. It’s okay to criticize ideas. It is not okay to criticize people or belittle them for their ideas. You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it and that’s okay. We are a global community that encompasses many people, ideals, and opinions. Please avoid:
We encourage everyone to be a critical thinker and provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
Nothing sabotages a healthy conversation like rudeness:
Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
Keep it clean. Don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit.
Respect each other. Don’t harass anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or vandalize the forum.
This is a public forum, and search engines index these discussions. Keep the language, links, and images safe for family and friends.
Self-Promotion and Solicitation
Moocable Community is a valuable resource for learning and sharing knowledge. We ask that users limit self-promotion and solicitation to maintain a focused and helpful environment.
Not Allowed:
Self-promotion in forum responses:
Users are not allowed to promote their consulting services, courses, or other ventures within forum responses. This disrupts the flow of conversation and can be seen as intrusive.
Promoting other forums:
Please refrain from inviting users to other online forums.
What to do instead:
Engage in discussions:
Share your knowledge and expertise by actively participating in relevant topics.
Build your reputation as a valuable member of the community.
Post resources:
If you have created resources like blog posts or articles, you can share them in relevant discussions, but avoid excessive self-promotion.
Fill your profile info - Add profile image, bio, link your socials (LinkedIn, GitHub, etc)
By following these guidelines, we can ensure the forum remains a productive and informative space for everyone.
Consequences of violating the Code of Conduct and Forum Policies
Our policies are put in place to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all. All reports made to us will be taken seriously. Those who don’t follow the Code of Conduct in good faith may face repercussions deemed appropriate by our team. We reserve the right to suspend any account associated with the offense until a full review is conducted. Repeat offenses will result in immediate removal from the community.
This is how we handle violations and misconduct:
Reach out: If the user understands that the person is violating the code of conduct, we will send them a direct message and guide them to the Code of conduct that is being infringed.
Initial Warning: For most first-time misconduct, our team will remove offending content and send a warning. Most issues are resolved at this stage.
Silence User: For misconduct or behavior containing abusive language or criticism that could negatively impact the forum environment. For instance, spamming the forum with the same topic or in multiple categories or within the same category.
Our team will remove all such posts and silence the user for 2 weeks.
Suspend User: For repetitive unacceptable behavior, our team will suspend the user’s account. Users found to instigate groupism , regionalism or divert members of the community to other external forums for personal benefit may be suspended.
Expel User: Our team will expel learners who display a pattern of destructive behavior toward other community members. This may be due to repeated violations of relatively minor offenses, such as spamming or making fun of another learner. Learners who have been expelled will have all their posts deleted or anonymized (depending on the post).
