Now I want to get a more complete grasp with my used copy of Programming PHP.

I, port19, am a sysadmin by trade with coding experience in about a dozen scripting languages, most notably shell and python.
I also had a lisp phase, but that's besides the point.
My timezone is CEST (UTC+2) and I have time in the evenings starting ~6pm.

What's important is that this is not a Laravel / Symphony / modern PHP study group, hence the title.
